United Way of Benton & Lincoln Counties is one of 1,400 United Ways nationwide.  Each is independently incorporated and entirely governed by local volunteers.  The money raised in each of these communities is for local programs in that area.  What's raised in Benton County benefits Benton County residents.  Likewise, funds raised in Lincoln County are allocated among programs located in Lincoln County, benefiting local residents.

Accountability

In this day of increased competition for charitable gifts, donors' standard and expectations have never been higher.  Rightfully so.  United Way understands the importance of ongoing organizational excellence and accountability.

As a public trust we must be completely open about our business with our donors, our volunteers, the press, and the general public.  Our integrity must be set and sustained at the highest level.  We must operate above reproach.  We strive for transparency--especially when it comes to safeguarding your donation to United Way.  A standing Finance Committee of uncompensated volunteers is responsible for :

• Implementing and managing an extensive set of checks and balances
• Managing financial and investment policy
• Reviewing and evaluating the contracted third-party accountant
• Hiring the independent auditor for audit and tax preparation
• Preparing the annual operating budget
• Overseeing grant and designation distributions
• Regularly reviewing financial policies

Standards Compliance

The expenses associated with processing donor designated pledges are recovered by an assessment for both fundraising and management and general fees based on actual historical costs in accordance with United Way of America Membership Standards as outlined in their publication titled United Way of America Cost Deduction Requirements for Membership Standard M.
